We have PUPPIES!!
May 8, 2008 the puppies were born. As I've written earlier, we had the whelping box in our bedroom so that Hailey could get used to sleeping in it. Wednesday night we took her temperature for the first time and it was 99.6 degrees. When the temperature falls below 99, the puppies will be arriving soon. We had no idea how soon . . .
She started panting alot and could not get comfortable. Needless to say, I slept with one eye open as I really did not want her to have them in our bedroom. Finally around 2:30 a.m. I told my husband we need to move this show out to the pole barn. He was not too thrilled about it - but went along with my instinct. After getting everything set up he went back to bed and turned on the baby monitor. At 3:30 a.m. I called out "we have a baby coming". He ran back out there in time to see the first female getting cleaned up.
Almost every hour after that another baby came until 9:00 a.m. She had 10 in her litter, but I am sad to say that two were still born and one had some complications, and he died early Saturday morning.
Hailey is a wonderful mother and is taking good care of her 7 puppies. 4 Males and 3 females.
She checks to make sure they are all accounted for.
A hungry bunch.
She's a very good mom.
