Hailey's 6th Week

Hailey is starting to get a little restless at night. She has always jumped into bed with us during the wee hours of the morning and we would hardly notice that she was there. Now when she jumps on the bed, she toss and turns and I think I hear her sighing - but that might just be my sighs as I wait for her to find a comfortable position. Yesterday, she did not even want to get up, so her days are definitely becoming a little more lazy.

Pregnancy Confirmed!

Saturday, April 12th I took Hailey to the vet for palpatation. She was almost to the point where it was hard for the vet to feel anything, but with a little patience she found the spot. Based on her expertice, she believes the first breeding on March 9 was the one that took.

She gets a little bigger every day in our eyes - not sure that the camera will pick up on it yet. I'll take some photo's over the weekend to add.

Hailey - our little girl and 3rd Griffon

It has always been a dream of mine to have a kennel and raise puppies. The obstacles were having the proper facilities take on such an endeavor and to find a breed that I loved enough to make the commitment.

The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is the breed we love, so the search was on for a female. We found what we were looking for over in Wisconsin, and took off in early December of 2005 to drive over and pick her up. Of course it was one of those typical winter weekends and the drive home was treacherous but worth it!

Hailey has the sweetest tempermant that you could ask for in a dog. She is a great hunter, strong on point and loves the water. Although the day she was tested for the NAVHDA natural ability test, she would NOT go swimming! It was just one of those days, so due to her lack of swimming, yet scoring high in all other fields, she did not get a rating. Frustrating yes, but we still love her just the same. Take her by the water now and you can't keep her out of it.

In 2004, we put Huntley to work as a "stud dog". He did a great job and sired his first litter of 10 puppies. After the pups were a few weeks old, we took a ride North to see them. Well, they were just adorable of course!

At home we already had 3 dogs - Remington our Rottweiler, Ben our Husky mix, and Huntley. I was quite surprised, to say the least, to hear my husband announce - upon seeing the puppies - that we were going to get one! Who was I to argue - like I said earlier - it doesn't take much to talk me into getting another dog.

The timing was not the greatest, as we were in the midst of moving out of our home of 18 years into a new home in the country with acreage. Brinkley did not get the training on birds, guns, etc. as we were quite busy building kennels, putting in a yard, etc. But, he is still a great family dog and he is my running buddy. When I get out my running shoes, he gets as excited as the other dogs get around guns!

Who could really resist these little guys?
