Stressing Time!

Last night was the first of 5 nights of "stressing" them which is a very mild training session. We lay them on the cool kitchen floor for 5 minutes seperated from each other and mom is not around either. After 5 minutes they are laid on nice warm towels out of the dryer for another 5 minutes. This helps them to learn independence and breaks down the pecking order so to speak, no alpha dogs and hopefully assuring everyone a well balanced pup.

Can you name the pups yet?? I'll help you out.

Monday, March 29

We've made it through the first long weekend and we are now settling into the ole' routine. Hailey is keeping busy with her feeding and cleaning of the pups, and I'm keeping busy with the feeding of Hailey (mostly McDonald's Cheeseburgers), and cleaning up after all of them. The first few weeks are the easiest for me, and then the roles reverse.

The puppy color code is as follows:

Red = Wilson
Blue = Wagner
Pink = Maggie
Yellow = Dash
Green = Hank (he doesn't always have his ribbon on though)
No Ribbon and all white body is Carl.

All six cuddled up together yesterday:

This is how I left Hailey this morning, it is as if she is asking me not to go!

And lastly, a little video of them moving around:

Puppy Time!

I awoke at 3 a.m. Thursday morning listening to Hailey's panting, which is a clear indication that she was going into labor. Of course, I never went back to sleep, and it was 3 p.m. before the first puppy arrived - a girl! She took her time having the rest of them, and they were all good size puppies ranging from 13 ounces up to 15+ ounces (that would be Wilson). 5 males followed. I was quite surprised that it is such a small litter - her smallest ever - but I think that is because they are all good sized too.

As most of you know we like to have fun and name the puppies. It helps keep them us keep them straight too.

Not today .....

I know many of you are waiting and wondering and I know how that feels. It won't be today as she still has a pretty good appetite and her temp is still normal. Of course that could all change by this evening .... I'll be sure to keep you updated!

One more week .....

Little miss Hailey - also known as "momma" or "queenie" is hanging in there. She is getting uncomfortable and just loves someone to lay by her and rub her belly. Last night she never jumped up on the bed as I think it is just getting to hard for her. She did get up there this morning though and we did some belly rubbing. Tonight we will put the whelping box together and up in our room so she can get used to sleeping in that again.

2 more weeks ......

Everything is going along as expected .... uneventful... other than her belly getting bigger by the day. Hailey has the sweetest disposition and she very rarely barks - she communicates with her eyes and her wagging tail. If there is something she wants you to know about she'll get you to go with her to see what it is. Last weekend, while we were gone, she kept going to my daughter's bed wagging her tail and looking at her. She could not figure out what she was trying to tell her ..... until she pulled back all her covers and found that Hailey had hid her rawhide bone under the sheets. Silly girl.

Here she is in all her glory this morning:

It is hard to tell how big she is in this photo, but I gave her a bath Sunday night and she is very round.
