Escape artists

They are very good at getting out of the box and this morning they were all back inside of it after eating breakfast. This is the first group that has done that. As soon as Hailey came back in though - they were all clammering to get out - other than Maggie, she slept .....

Wednesday, April 27

Play time is now getting longer and sometimes rougher too. The growling and barking is quite cute! Last night they discovered the larger pieces of kibble in their food. Carl took his piece over to the elevated bed and ate his all alone. They are starting to get the hang of using the newspaper too - although sometimes they are just too busy playing to bother with properness.

Maggie turns her head, just as I snap the picture:

Monday, April 26th update

I'm sorry to say that I didn't take any pictures this weekend! Now that more and more of my free time is picking up newspaper and laying down new paper, plus playing, feeding, etc. the days just got a way from me. We had visitors on Saturday and Hank has now been chosen.

They are all getting teeth too. That little window of being able to play with them without injury is just to short.

At lunch time today I snapped a couple of pictures and took this video. Now they cry when I leave ..... so sad! :-(

Friday again!

Wow - 4 weeks old already. Hailey is now spending the night in the house with us. I have the baby monitor on so I hear the puppies if they need anything, but so far they have been quiet all night. By 5 a.m. Hailey wants to get out there and check on them though, and she lets me know it too. Luckily I am used to getting up at that hour to run.

When I got home at lunch today, 3 had escaped the box and were hangin' out with mom. Carl, Wagner and surprisingly - Dash! He might be a tad smaller than the rest, but he can get around.

Wilson has been choosen to go to Ohio. He'll be loved to pieces I think. Tomorrow the 2nd male will get picked. This weekend we will also put the whelping box away and give the pups more room to get into trouble. I'll also start mixing in puppy food with the baby cereal.

Great Escape

When I got home yesterday I found one had escaped and was happily laying by Hailey nursing. It was Carl! Here he sits after Hailey got up - looking guilty perhaps?

Later on he was pretty tired from his adventure:

Hank found a toy to use as a pillow too:

Tuesday, April 20th - Feeding pictures

They are getting more interested in the baby cereal now. Last night Maggie was pretty much swimming in it at one point. I have to make sure Hailey is out of the room as they'd much rather just nurse, and Hailey would much rather just eat their cereal. This morning they did real well lapping it up.

Dash would rather lick it off the floor last night:

This morning he decided to eat it out of the bowl:

Maggie gets right into it - literally:

Monday, April 19th Update

They are all getting more and more active. Surprisingly, none have escaped the box yet. They seem content to stay in there for now and like to cuddle up together. Every morning I expect to find at least one out laying with mom, but not yet. They haven't really taken to the milk/baby cereal mixture either. They will lick it off my finger and off of each other, but not so much out of the dish. Carl and Wilson were doing fairly good this morning though. Yesterday our neighbor walked into the room and it startled Hailey, so she barked and Wagner started growling! It was pretty cute.

Milk Time!

They got their first little taste of puppy milk last night. They licked their lips a little and some went back for a 2nd look, but mostly they were dis-interested. It is a matter of getting to them when they haven't just eaten with mom, or when they are not too tired. They did enjoy walking - or trying to walk - outside of the whelping box. Dash is probably the most advanced walker right now as he doesnt' have as much weight to carry around. Wilson, with his big belly, has more of a struggle.

First lick of milk:

Hank lays by the dish:

What? I'm not supposed to walk in it? (Carl)

A milky shower:

Wagner is all tired out after that adventure:

Happy Friday and enjoy your weekend!

Wednesday, April 14th

Just a couple of quick pictures that I took at lunch time. Carl is always ready to walk up to the side of the box when he see us. In this picture, he can hardly keep his eyes open, but he was whining a little, wanting to snuggle.

And then there was Maggie sitting there all alone, trying to decide where to go lay down for her after lunch nap.

Video Tuesday - April 13th

They are become more and more aware of what is going on around them. Last night I had one of the toys dangling in front of Carl and got a few growls out of him. They try their hardest to walk and knock each other over. It is just pure joy to watch them .....

Monday, Monday .... April 12th

Oh, they are so cute! Not much to report other than their continued attempts to get up on all 4 and move around. Pretty soon we'll start taking bets on which one will be the first to escape the whelping box. I also added some colorful toys to the box.

This what I found when I got home Friday night. Luckily the camera is always in easy reach. That would be Maggie laying on top of Wilson in his favorite pose:

Here are a couple more taken that evening:

At lunch time today they were spread out all over, except for Carl and Maggie with their heads in the corner. I have a feeling they may take to a crate easily. Then Hank had to crawl over and bug sleeping Dash:

And finally, just as I was leaving to come back to work they got a little active so I took a quick video:

Video Friday!

I took a couple of short videos this morning. The first one is of Hailey getting into the box which instantly wakes up the puppies. She is cleaning Maggie as Dash and Wilson sense it might be time for another meal!!

This next one is of Hailey settling in to feed them breakfast. They are trying so hard to walk, and it is amazing how quickly they can get to their mamma!

Enjoy and have a great weekend!

2 weeks old today!

All the little eyes are open now - although it is really hard to tell sometimes as the faces are so dark and their eyes so little. They are trying their darndest to get up on those little legs to walk. I've heard a few little attempts at barking too. The fun is just beginning!

I put the puppies on Hailey's bed while I change the bedding in the whelping box:

Sleepy Maggie:

I didn't realize I caught open eyes until looking at the pictures, this is Wilson:

Wagner all stretched out and snoozing comfortably:

Last night was nail clipping night and the weigh in. Most are into the 3 pound range now. Those legs are going to have to be strong to get those bellies off the ground.
